Ethereum (ETH) developer confirmed the date of the last testnet before The Merge
The second-largest cryptocurrency project is at the final stage of its upgrade path, where it will change the PoW-to-PoS consensus mechanism. One of its main developers - Tim Beiko confirmed the dates of the last testnet.
The test chain called Goerli / Prater is to connect to the Beacon Chain in two phases. The first one will start on August 4 this year. It will be accompanied by a Bellatrix update on the consensus layer. The second phase will end on August 6-12, 2022. In this phase, the executive layer will move from PoW to PoS.
The Goerli merger will differ from previous testnets integrations in that node operators will need to update runtime clients and their tandem consensus layer.
The Merge launch date
Connecting the last test network will only affect its participants and node operators. People who have and bet their Ether (ETH) will not have to do anything. If all goes to plan, The Merge will go live on September 19, 2022. However, this is an approximate date and may change depending on the results of Goerli's testing.
