The Merge will not trigger a bull market on ETH

The end of the third quarter without significant changes in the crypto market.

CoinShares CEO Meltem Demirors predicts what awaits Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in Q3. In his recent interview with CNBC's Squawk Box, he pointed out that it is clear that the overall crypto market is currently in a general holiday lull as many people are not actively trading during the summer period. This also means that Demirors does not expect a large increase in the volume of trading on both major cryptocurrencies until the end of September.

The period of stagnation in the cryptocurrency market

- The flows were relatively flat throughout August. People have to rest and go on vacation sometimes, Demirors points out, adding that there is still a significant drop in volatility from Friday night to Monday morning, mainly because the markets are not so active.

This also means that, in his opinion, the nearest prospects for BTC will not change and remain “flat” for the last part of the third quarter. He believes that there are currently no immediate incentives that could lead to a jump in value for Bitcoin.

Moving on to Ethereum and the hype surrounding its planned transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake consensus in mid-September, CoinShares CEO points out that excited investors may mistakenly assume that technological change will immediately translate into a significant increase in the value of ETH . Demiroros also reminds that the issue of broader market conditions should not be ignored in this regard.

This key update of the Ethereum network will fundamentally change the dynamics of supply and demand for this blockchain. While there is a lot of enthusiasm around The Merge, Demiroros believes that one of the fundamental problems is that people looking at this update perceive it as a growth catalyst for Ethereum, interpreting the event as a single element. CoinShare's CEO also stated that The Merge will definitely improve Ethereum as a working project, but it does not necessarily contribute to the influx of significant amounts of investment capital to send the price of ETH to the moon.
